In august I wrote Left vs right is stupid: a personal manifesto. A few of the principles in there included:
Actions speak louder than words
Incentives are more powerful than morals
Results matter more than feelings
So today, I would like to get you to take action through an incentive so we can affect a result in the real world.
In addition to my usual donations, I will be matching donations that you guys do up to €1000.
I’ve pre-selected charities
To make your life easy, and to prevent some trolls from getting me to match their donation to a silly charity, I have curated some charities that I believe to be high quality and high integrity.
Givewell - tracks how much impact a donation to a charity actually has. I will match donations to any of their top charities (or Givewell’s funds). See the list here.
World Central Kitchen - food support for people in crisis. From Gaza to Ukraine to Brazil, they feed those who are impacted by disasters of natural and human origin.
Electronic Frontier Foundation (🇳🇱 or Bits of Freedom) - these are strong supporters of privacy rights (especially online) in the US and the Netherlands (and EU more broadly). Privacy is what protects us from centralised powers of tyranny. And before you think “I have nothing to hide”, ask yourself: would you have nothing to hide from an evil regime? Perhaps a future where your government no longer likes people like you? Would you want a potential evil power to have access to everything?

Before December 30th 2025, send me the receipt of your donation, and I will tally up the donations made by you and readers like you. I’ll donate to those charities by the same amount, and post the receipts on this platform.

You should 100% brag about donating
Ok maybe brag is too strong a word. But if you believe results matter more than feelings, then you should think about telling those around you that you donated to a charity you like, and that they should consider the same.
If you are someone who likes to brag. Do that. You have my blessing.
If you’re an introvert like me, write about it instead and tell others to brag about it. Whatever gets the word out.
