[ Monthly Mentor ] March, April, May, June (sorry)
Autism, extreme ENSO weather events, and water flossing
The Monthly Mentor is an easy to skim bullet point list of things I enjoyed this month, usually a personal update and something to: read, watch, and buy.
Editor’s note: the astute reader might guess I’ve been busy.

This is the Monthly(ish) Mentor of Q2(ish).
[ Personal ] - I picked up skydiving again this season, finished the home renovation (mostly), my brother got married, and we’re pivoting our company to LLM compression and optimisation.
[ Read ] I Thought I Was Autistic. I Was Wrong - I’ve been having a lot of conversations about the use of pathology labels like ADD and autism. I for instance am 100% not autistic, but saying I’m autistic helps those with minds unlike mine understand that I prefer low-stimulus environments and abstract thoughts. But I reject the label and think that a lot of people are needlessly pathologising personality traits. This article is a case in point of a lady that thought she had a disorder, but actually just had a personality with some areas of growth to be had. (link, paywall)
[ Watch 22:26 ] A Super El Niño Is Coming in 2026 - this year will have more extreme weather than usual due to the pacific ocean climate cycle. Specifically, something called the ENSO. I recommend familiarising yourself with it. One filter to apply to your reading of the news the coming 12 months is that much of the extreme weather, while modified by climate change, is not a sudden shift heralding the end of the human race. This is not the new normal (though it could be if we don’t fix our energy system), so relax and freak out accordingly. (link)
[ Buy ] Waterpik WP-582 - I love the Waterpik water-based flossing devices. We own two, one for at home and one that permanently lives in the suitcase for when we travel. My and Mylene each have our own tips (swapping is easy) and living without one for even a day or two hurts. My old one broke after years of faithful service, so I got a new one. (link)
Enjoy your week friends!
