The Monthly Mentor is an easy to skim bullet point list of things I enjoyed this month, usually a personal update and something to: read, watch, and buy.
This is the Monthly(ish) Mentor of May/June 2025.

[ Personal ] - Summer is in full swing. Lots of travel, lots of work. I’m excited to be picking up skydiving again next weekend. Turns out the little airstrip near my hometown is quite known for skydiving and even hosts the world championships this year. Who knew. I’ve also started violin lessons and hope to not suck in about 12 months. I also expect to fail my HAM radio exam this weekend.
[ Read ] High agency in 30 minutes - a motivating read about cultivating yourself as a high agency person. If you read anything today, make it this. (link)
[ Watch ] Murderbot - Robot hacks himself into freedom. Decides to spend most time watching terrible romcoms. Gets hired by space hippies. Chaos. I’m enjoying this so much. (link)
[ Buy ] Custom fake tattoos - I had these made as a fun marketing thing for an event. You just upload any picture (logo, design, anything) and they send you those childhood memory “put it on your arm and put some water on it” tattoos that stick around for 1-3 days depending on heat/sweat. (link)
[ Nerd corner ] Immich - a fully self hosted alternative to Google Photos. I started running this on my home server a few weeks ago and love it. Google Photos has no export API, so I have no way of easily backing up my personal pictures, and this beautiful piece of FOSS solved that for me. (link)
[ Favor ] If you are at ETHCC, let me know! I’ll be here until friday morning. If you’re a fellow crypto-bro(ette), you can watch my first ever EthCC talk here.
Enjoy your week friends!

Hi Mentor! I’m very curious about how you’re approaching learning to play the violin! Self learning, personal teacher, something in between?
I’ve been learning an instrument on and off and didn’t quite figure out the best way for me.
